What Pride Means at BECU

At BECU, Pride reflects a core belief that everyone deserves to feel like they belong.

For employees like Federico B.H., co-chair of BECU's Pride Advocacy Collective employee resource group, Pride connects directly to the ability to show up fully as yourself.

"I never thought I could have so much fun and be out at work, especially in finance," Federico said. "Finding PAC felt like finding my community. It feels meaningful and energizing to be part of something like this."

Federico joined the PAC early in his career at BECU after attending an employee resource group event. Today, he helps lead the group alongside co-chair Amanda G., creating space for employees to connect, share experiences and build community.

Throughout the year, PAC hosts gatherings that range from structured programs to open conversations where employees can share stories, talk through challenges or connect with colleagues.

Pride Month marks a high point for that work.

"What we do during Pride Month is incredibly meaningful," Federico said. "It takes a lot of work and support from across the organization, and it shows how deeply BECU is committed to inclusion year-round."

For Amanda, Pride is part celebration and part motivation. This year's Seattle Pride theme, "Rally," resonates with her.

"To rally means to come together with purpose, especially when visibility, inclusion and equity are being challenged," Amanda said. "When we rally, we celebrate who we are and bring energy to building a more inclusive future."

That shared purpose shows up in how BECU supports employees, engages with the community and brings its values to life.

Rallying Together Through Community Partnerships

BECU's Pride efforts extend beyond the workplace through partnerships with organizations supporting the LGBTQ+ community, including Seattle Pride, GSBA, UTOPIA Washington and Entre Hermanos. These partnerships reflect a commitment to belonging, equity and community well-being and are grounded in long-term collaboration.

"Our partnerships focus on ongoing engagement, financial support, volunteerism and visibility," Amanda said. "These efforts help strengthen the communities these organizations serve." BECU's longest-standing partnership with an LGBTQ+ organization is with Seattle Pride.

"BECU's support helps us keep our events free and accessible, with community-driven experiences that uplift LGBTQIA+ individuals across the region," said Ross G., director of Partnerships at Seattle Pride. "Together, we create spaces where people feel seen and connected."

That partnership contributes to the production of community events, programming and visibility efforts across the region.

"Many members of the LGBTQ+ community still face barriers that affect financial stability," Ross said. "Consistent support from organizations like BECU helps build trust and strengthens access to resources and opportunity."

For Federico, that community impact is deeply personal.

"Supporting organizations like Seattle Pride helps people show up as themselves and feel safe," he said. "Those spaces matter."

How BECU Employees Can Celebrate With Pride

BECU invites employees to celebrate Pride through optional events, storytelling and opportunities to connect.

The annual Pride flag raising at BECU's headquarters in Tukwila traditionally kicks off celebrations.

This year, BECU is also offering employees at neighborhood financial centers a chance to engage through a new "Pride in a Box" project.

Each box includes a Pride flag, educational materials, swag and Pride event details. Team members can sign and return the flag, which will be featured in Pride parades where employees will be walking.

These efforts give employees across BECU more opportunities to participate in Pride and demonstrate BECU's commitment to LGBTQ+ employees.

"Pride began as collective action, and that spirit continues today," Amanda said. "When we work together, we make it possible for people to live authentically and safely."
