Takeaways: BECU Returned Value to Members and Invested in Communities

  • BECU returned $425.7 million to members in 2025 (about $276 per member)1.
  • Strong financial stewardship kept BECU well-capitalized (12.4% reserve) while assets held steady at $29.4 billion.
  • Members got free financial support through coaching, credit counseling and classes, reaching thousands across life stages.
  • New and expanded benefits made banking easier, including self-service debit/ATM limit increases, more discounts and new financial centers.
  • BECU invested $8.1 million in communities to expand access through targeted relief, homebuying assistance and nonprofit support.

Since its founding 90 years ago, BECU has remained dedicated to its mission of putting people first, and 2025 was no different.

In 1935, a handful of Boeing employees pooled their money because they believed people do better financially when they work together. In 2025, that belief continued to be a source of stability and strength, supporting members amid economic change and helping them build their financial futures.

BECU provided service and support while returning $425.7 million to members, an average of $276 per member. This money showed up in members' pockets in many ways: In the form of competitive loan and deposit rates, few fees, discounted hometown game admissions and products and programs that reward good financial habits.

"Our commitment to our members' financial well-being guides every decision we make," said BECU President and CEO Beverly Anderson. "That means returning value to members and supporting communities over the long term."

Through all of it, BECU stayed focused on supporting our members' pursuit of financial freedom. Here are some highlights from 2025.

Your Credit Union, Your Money

A financially strong credit union can keep rates competitive, fund community programs and show up in a crisis. In 2025, through thoughtful stewardship, BECU's assets held steady at $29.4 billion.

BECU closed the year with a 12.4% reserve. Regulators consider a credit union healthy and well-capitalized at 7%.

"A strong reserve gives us the financial strength to remain stable and competitive," Anderson said. "It allows us to meet today's needs while continuing to open doors for our members tomorrow and in the years ahead."

With a robust financial position and the successful efforts of members who improved their credit, BECU automatically reduced interest rates on 46,603 loans through the reprice program.2 Altogether, this returned a combined $2.24 million to members in 2025, without anyone having to ask.

Membership grew to over 1.5 million, up 112,029 from last year.

Another 11,273 BECU members used free credit assistance and budgeting through our partner GreenPath, including credit report correction requests, student loan repayment evaluations and debt counseling.

"Financial education and guidance can change how people see their options," Anderson said. "When members have support, they can move forward with more confidence and make choices that work for their lives."

Through in-person and online offerings, 5,045 people enrolled in and attended BECU's free classes, workshops and events. From family financial days to first-time homebuying to preparing for retirement, BECU continues to support people through their many life stages.

Expanded Member Benefits in 2025

BECU added services and expanded member benefits in 2025. Here are a few highlights:

  • Made it easier to raise your spending limit. Members have raised their ATM and debit limits more than 75,000 times since this self-service feature launched in 2025. Try other new features in the BECU Mobile App.
  • Offered deals and discounts. Members saved more than $2.2 million in 2025 through BECU partnerships with local businesses, including discounted admission to games, concerts, attractions and shows. Discounts rotate throughout the year, so there's likely something near you. See current deals and discounts.
  • Supported local music. In 2025, BECU contributed $650,000 to Seattle's independent radio station, KEXP, through loyal member support. Every swipe of the KEXP-branded BECU debit card sends $0.01 to support artists, DJs, music education and free, live, in-studio performances. Plus, the card looks cool! Since 2020, that total has reached $2.6 million. Get the KEXP debit card.
  • Added in-person financial services. In 2025, BECU opened five new Neighborhood Financial Centers to deliver convenience to members where and how they want to bank. Find a financial center near your home, workplace or commute route.
  • Tested new digital tools. In 2025, BECU began testing a Financial Health Hub with 80,000 members. The hub shows exactly where your money goes and helps you figure out what to do about it. We're also building a new AI advisor to help members better understand their accounts and offer personalized insights and support. Behind the scenes, our AI tool "Monty" already helps BECU's support team find answers faster when you call.

How BECU Showed Up in Communities

In total, BECU committed $8.1 million to community partners in 2025, focused on a range of issues, including financial education, affordable housing and expanding financial access. Here are a few examples of how members are part of something bigger than banking.

  • Created financial stability. For several weeks in 2025, federal employees went without pay. BECU refunded fees for 592 members during the shutdown ($11,740 total) to help ease their financial burden.

  • Opened doors to home ownership. In 2025, more than $2 million in homebuying assistance went toward 267 first-time homebuyer mortgages, in a market that told many of them to keep waiting.

  • Strengthened food security in our communities. BECU put $200,000 directly into local food banks in 2025, then doubled employee donations to hunger-relief organizations, adding another $103,900 across more than 60 groups. More than 60 BECU locations collected 5,000 pounds of food for local food drives, and BECU partnered with PCC Community Markets and Spokane Teachers Credit Union to contribute $60,000 to nonprofits for urgent needs across Washington.

  • Supported flood relief efforts. In December 2025, historic flooding hit Washington communities and 10 counties were declared disaster areas. BECU donated $30,000 to the American Red Cross, providing more than 3,000 overnight stays for displaced residents, nearly 30,000 meals and snacks and more than 9,000 clean-up kits for families starting the long work of coming home.

  • Invested in community-led solutions. Every year, BECU members nominate the nonprofits that matter most to them. In 2025, the People Helping People Awards granted organizations a total of $450,000.

  • Helped students build financial skills. BECU partnered with several universities — Eastern Washington University, Western Washington University and the University of Washington — to prepare young adults with a lifetime of robust financial skills. We offer real-life money simulations, savings matching, scholarships and ongoing financial resources for faculty and staff.

Still Working for Members

Ninety years is a long time to stay true to an idea. When a financial institution answers to members, every dollar BECU doesn't pay to shareholders is a dollar that can go toward what members care about.

BECU is broadening that reach. In 2025, BECU and SAFE Credit Union in Sacramento, California, announced plans to combine. This partnership means more people in more communities will have access to a credit union built around their needs.

"BECU exists to increase access and help people pursue financial freedom," Anderson said. "By creating opportunity and offering meaningful support, we help members achieve their goals and build their lives with confidence."
