You can help your teenager join or open new accounts online (if age 13 or older) or by visiting your local BECU Neighborhood Financial Center. Be sure to come with them to the appointment. If you choose to join online, help your teen through the process – make sure each field is properly filled out, and have your Social Security number or form of ID available.

Please note: Parents/guardians must be a joint account holder on the accounts until their teenager turns 18. If your child is under the age of 13, you'll need to visit a Neighborhood Financial Center to set up the Early Saver account. **

Here's a few tips to help you along the way.

  1. If you don't want your teen to have the BECU courtesy pay feature, please ask the consultant to remove it. This will help ensure that your teen is declined for any purchase where they don't have the available funds in their account.
  2. Don't get caught off guard—receive timely bank account alerts via SMS text message or email and you'll be on top of your account activity. Select the Alerts tab in Online Banking to get started.
  3.  Money Manager is a great tool to help your teen establish a budget, track spending, and see spending trends. Learn more.
