At BECU, our members provide the inspiration that drives much of what we do.

As we strive to share the BECU difference and demonstrate the members-first philosophy of the co-op, we provide the opportunity for members to submit photos and videos to be considered for an advertising campaign or other marketing material.

Photo and Video Submission FAQ

Any member over the age of 18 can submit a photo with the following considerations:

  • Be sure you're comfortable with your submitted photo being displayed publicly in a variety of media, such as print and TV ads, social media content, billboards, etc.
  • Read and accept our Media Release Agreement (see below), which grants us your permission to place your photo into our image database for unlimited use and indicates you understand our intention and processes.
  • You have obtained permission of all those visible in the photo that it can be used by BECU and that the photo is not licensed from a professional photographer.
  • You acknowledge that the photo was not taken by a professional photographer.
  • You are not expecting compensation by BECU for the use of your photo.
  • You understand that attribution/photo credit is not guaranteed.
  • You are not a California State resident. California residents are not eligible to participate. BECU will not collect, store, use or retain any photos or other media material submitted by California residents.

You may spot your photo or video on a becu.org web page, television ad, billboard, online/social media ad, print media or collateral, on an ATM screen, or in a BECU Neighborhood Financial Center. Your submission may be selected for any purpose that we believe aligns to BECU marketing messages. If you are not comfortable with your photo being used in this way, please reconsider sharing it with us. For California State residents, BECU will not collect, store, use, or retain any photos or other media material submitted by California residents.

Because our marketing is member-driven, where we can, we identify members by their first name and last initial; business-member photos may include a business name, where possible. Due to creative and marketing channel constraints, we cannot guarantee that your name, business or social media handle will be included, or that you will receive notice that your submitted photo is being used as part of a marketing campaign, or as part of our website.

When you accept the terms of our release form, you are opting-in and granting BECU consent to use and display your submitted image in support of marketing and community messages that pertain to our programs, products, services and other communications related to BECU business. The form also provides the opportunity to share your reasons for submitting the photo to us that relates to your membership. Finally, the form outlines terms and conditions that you must indicate you understand before you submit. California State residents cannot participate.

Our intention is to never use the photo out of context for what it depicts. The narrative you complete as part of the submission allows us to find appropriate placement. But, in general, you should be comfortable with your image being displayed in BECU materials. If you have very specific requests or requirements regarding how BECU may use your photo, please do not submit a photo to us.

Currently, we cannot guarantee that you will be informed prior to your image being used in our marketing. We are, however, revisiting our process for engaging and contacting members regarding their photos. Our future hope is to have more robust tools that allow us to send out automatic communications once an image is selected for use. In addition, because we have a vast number of photos and use-case scenarios, we cannot tell you exactly where the photo will appear (be it television, outdoor advertising, print or digital media).

There are types of media that make it easier to share the name of the member that submitted the image. These are generally printed items, and some fixed digital images. When possible and available, we include those details in the BECU advertisement. Unfortunately we are unable to tag or attribute a member's submission to a particular social media account.

No. The media release stipulates unlimited usage without an expiration date.

Your participation in sharing photos for us to consider using is completely voluntary and there is no monetary compensation if/when we use an image you have submitted. Please ensure that you have full ownership of any photo or video you submit to us.

Because these membership campaigns are focused on individual members and their families and friends, we keep any reference to a name mention, where possible. With the exception of select business marketing campaigns, we will not mention a business name or commercial venture.

You may inquire, but it is most likely that we are not able to provide any advertising material to you that features your image.

As a member-owned credit union, we work hard to keep costs down to keep your costs down. Once an ad is printed, it's costly to reprint a new ad, and we're unable to remove it. Other channels may provide us the opportunity to remove images. However, we ask that each member take the time to consider the longevity of a photo before they submit it. Please email BECU Marketing if you would like to request removing your photo for future advertising.

Personal Media Release Agreement

You should submit your photo to us only if you agree to all of the following terms:

By submitting a photograph, video or other media material, you irrevocably transfer, assign and convey to BECU all right, title and interest in and to the material. You represent to BECU that you are a BECU member, you own all rights to the material, and that you have the right, alone, to submit and transfer it to BECU in accordance with this agreement, without attribution to the person who created the material. If the material shows other people, you promise that at least one of those people is a BECU member and that all people represented in the material have given you express permission to submit it to BECU. You understand and agree that BECU will not pay you or anyone else any money for your material or for BECU's use of it.

You understand and agree that BECU may publish or display the material in any media, which may include television commercials, radio advertisements, billboards, print advertisements, bus and train signs, and other forms of media, in perpetuity, throughout the world. You will not be able to review or approve the material before BECU uses it. BECU may edit or alter the material as it deems appropriate, and will not be liable to you for that editing or alteration, or for any distortion or other effects that may result.

You understand that the material may reveal your name and any products or services you have obtained from BECU. You give your consent to BECU to provide your material, along with your name and contact information, to third parties who assist BECU in its marketing efforts.

You represent to BECU that you are at least 18 years of age.

Notice to residents of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, and Utah: Residents of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, and Utah are not eligible to participate. BECU will not collect. store, use or retain any photos or other media material submitted by residents of these states except when providing a financial product or service.

Business Member Media Release Agreement

You should not submit a photo to us unless you agree to all of the following terms:

By submitting a photograph, video or other media material, the organization/business identified above (“you,” “your”) irrevocably transfers, assigns and conveys to BECU all right, title and interest in and to the material. You represent to BECU that you are a BECU member, you own all rights to the material, and that you have the right, alone, to submit and transfer it to BECU in accordance with this agreement, without attribution to the person who created the material. If the material shows people, you promise that all people represented in the material have given you their express permission to submit it to BECU. You understand and agree that BECU will not pay you or anyone else any money for your material or for BECU's use of it.
