BECU Expands in Downtown Seattle and South Lake Union

BECU, Washington's largest community credit union, opened the doors of a 7,700 square-foot Downtown Seattle Financial Center on 6th Avenue between Pike Place and Pine Street earlier on January 9. Today, the credit union also announced plans to open a 1,800 square-foot financial center in the South Lake Union neighborhood at 114 Westlake Ave North in the third quarter of 2018.

By year-end, 11 financial centers will serve more than 155,000 BECU members who live in Seattle. The credit union currently has 49 locations and more than 240 ATMs serving members nationwide. At BECU locations, members can establish accounts, apply for loans and perform financial transactions. Due to its larger size, the Downtown Seattle Financial Center will have full-time specialists supporting members with mortgage, investments and business services.

Consistent with BECU's operating model, the majority of its financial centers offer an innovative “tellerless” layout to empower members to access their accounts in ways most convenient for them, including mobile banking, online banking and ATMs. Member consultants are available to assist with these transactions, and provide one-on-one support for opening accounts and more complex services, such as mortgages, personal loans, auto loans and business services.

As a member-owned credit union, BECU is focused on helping increase the financial health of its members and communities. BECU returned $174 million to its members in 2016 in the form of better rates and lower fees compared to bank averages. Additionally, the credit union shared more than $5 million in 2016 with its local communities through philanthropic giving and community programs.

BECU's community support includes renewing its partnership with the Seattle Good Business Network with a three-year commitment to support their work on programs such as Seattle Made, Seattle Sewn and others that are focused on growing and supporting a diverse, vibrant and inclusive local economy.

As a not-for-profit, BECU is a different kind of financial institution where dedicated employees work together to serve members and improve the financial well-being of their communities. Career opportunities are available now.
