BECU Awards $150,000 to Black Nonprofits
BECU’s history is rooted in helping each other. To that end, we’re excited to announce that we’ve awarded capacity-building dollars to five African American nonprofits that are doing exceptionally great work within our communities.

About the Program
The Black Community Development Project is led by our Social Impact team with support from the Black Alliance Cooperative Employee Connections Group (ECG) and is dedicated to helping to improve the overall emotional, physical, and financial health and well-being of the Black community. As a part of our commitment to support Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) we donated $150,000 to five small, nonprofit and grassroots African-American/Black led organizations working to grow and expand their capacity and impact.
Criteria for inclusion:
- Provide services in the areas of Education, Arts and Cultural Enrichment, Economic development, Workforce Development, Health and Wellness, Environmental Justice, Basic Needs or Community Building
- Meet BECU and IRS eligibility requirements for 501c3 organizations

Red-Tailed Hawks Flying Club
The Red-Tailed Hawks Flying Club promotes science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) through aviation. Young students of color are among the many participants who get inspired to consider careers in aviation, including aerospace.

About BECU's Black Alliance Cooperative
The Black Alliance Cooperative is a BECU employee connection group that is designed to empower and support our fellow employees through action, education and community involvement. The B.A.C.'s 130+ membership is comprised of BECU employees who identify as African-American and Black. We are open to allyship when knowledge is turned into action, and when and where allies have authority and use that power to make room for all.
