Switch to BECU

Five Easy Steps to Switch from a Bank to a Credit Union

Awesome! You’re ready to make a change – you won’t regret it. We want to make your move as easy as possible – review our checklist below and contact us for any help.

Moving is one of life's dreaded tasks: planning, packing, transferring, logistics, the works. Luckily, we're your moving buddy who doesn't even need pizza as payback! And unlike hefting a sofa up the stairs, the most you'll need to do is activate your debit card.

Let's get started: Click here for our handy checklist.

1. Become a BECU Member (Don't Worry…it costs $0)

This can be done online or in person. If possible, plan ahead and make an appointment to come on in – it's free to do so. Our member advisors do the work for you, and can walk you through the entire switching process in one go (and it's free).

2. Hop on The Online

You're joining at a great time – we recently updated our entire website! You'll want to use it wherever you are, whether it's a home computer or your smart phone. Once you're a member, simply visit our site and set up your profile by clicking Online Banking (hint – it's the red button in the upper right-hand corner).

3. Activate that Plastic

If you join at a financial center, you'll get to activate your card in person, and even can select your own PIN (personal identification number). If you join online, you'll receive your card (and a PIN) within 7 – 10 business days, and simply need to use it to activate it.

4. Deposit $$$ into your BECU accounts

Ready to use your account? Make sure there is money in it first! Often the simplest way to transfer funds from your old accounts is to write a check to your new BECU account. Don't have checks? We can help initiate a wire transfer, or guide you through the process of an electronic transfer.  And of course you can always deposit cash at one of our ATMs or neighborhood financial centers.

5. Say Your Farewell

Cut your old bank's cards and do a little (or BIG) dance – you're a BECU member!

You're  all set. Now comes the fun part – using BECU as your financial institution. Set up automatic transactions, use our bill-pay service (it's free!), and explore loans and financing options. And, as a credit union, our philosophy is to return profit. You'll see this in the form of fewer fees, better rates and improved products and services. We're also big on financial education – whether it's retirement questions, wanting to know more about buying a house or financing college, we're here for you. Check out our financial education tools and please don't hesitate to stop in or contact us – we're your local neighbor, readily available to you.

Welcome to BECU! We're so glad you're here.
