Being BECU Honors Award-Worthy Employees
Great employees make for a great member experience – BECU honored 12 employees with its First Annual “Being BECU” Awards.
“A key part of our success,” said BECU's CEO Benson Porter, “is recognizing those who are living, demonstrating and delivering on making a difference.” Thus began the ceremony for the First Annual “Being BECU” award night. “What is ‘Being BECU?'” asked Porter. “Employees who personify our core values, making a significant impact for our members, community and BECU.”
The award was inspired by the principle of “happy employees equal happy members,” and was developed to recognize just such individuals who live the BECU values every day: members first; do the right thing; know your stuff; be real; and own it. The June 2, 2016 event honored a total of 12 employees across all ages, years of experience and departments. Employees were nominated by their peers; the only requirement that the individual represented BECU values in their everyday work.
And represent the values they did.
“She's really great at making members feel appreciated – always looking out for their best interest,” said Becky Gardner of Trust Officer and winner Rachelle Czaplinski.
“Bottom line – Phil is the most supportive manager I've ever had,” said Alan Sanchez of Woodinville Neighborhood Financial Center Manager and winner Phil Olson. “He leads by example – always putting his team in front of himself.”
“She always has her hand in things that affect BECU and the members,” said Rae'Ann Massart of Senior IT Business Analyst and winner Tami Seday. “If our systems don't take care of our members, she does a good job of making sure that problem is fixed right away.”
“Megan brings her most authentic self to work every day,” said Melanie Walsh of Organization Development Consultant and winner Megan Clark. “Her desire helps us to be better, even asking those questions that most people won't ask.”
Rachelle, Phil, Tami and Megan joined their award-winning peers at breakfast with the BECU Executive Management Team before being whisked away on a day of fun. All 12 were a VIP for the day, including a visit to the Mariner's bullpen for the “sports group,” glass blowing for the “art group,” and a spa experience for the “spa group.” Their day commenced with a congratulatory dinner, each winner's accolades rewarded with claps and hollers of appreciation.
“We could be here all night talking about our success as a credit union,” said Porter in his closing remarks. “But what remains important is that we focus on the people behind it – what we do, how we do it, and recognize those who contribute to our efforts each and every day.”
