What is a Fiduciary?
Who would you trust to make the right decisions for you and your family if you suddenly could not? The term “Fiduciary” refers to any role in which a person is given the power to act in the best interest of another. The roles of Executor, Trustee, Agent, etc. are all examples of fiduciary roles. Appointing a fiduciary, as mentioned here, ensures that you have someone close to you who could act on your behalf in your time of need.

However, rather than putting that responsibility on a family member or close friend, you can turn to us. You can name BECU Trust Services as your personal representative/executor, or Trustee, or as the successor in case your first choice isn't available to take on the role, or we can act as an agent on behalf of your named beneficiary. Our trust services team has decades of experience and is well-equipped to assist you through tasks you might have never imagined you'd be asked to carry out.
To recap, the fiduciary's main responsibilities vary by the specific role they are asked to fulfill:
- Personal Representative/Executor: Settles the estate of a deceased person
- Trustee: Manages assets in a trust for the benefit of the beneficiary
- Agent: Manages the financial and/or medical affairs of a person who is not able to manage their own affairs.
